Colonic Irrigation/Colonic HydrotherapyThe Colon
The colon or bowel is an extremely vital part of the digestive system but it is commonly dismissed as unimportant. A healthy colon is populated by billions of friendly bacteria which aid in detoxifying waste, guard against infection and synthesis of certain vitamins- these bacteria make up 70% of the dry weight of faecal matter. It is 1.5 meters in length and about 5 cm in diameter and forms the last part of the digestive tract. When the balance of bacteria changes from friendly to unfriendly, the colon starts to experience problems which may be caused by stress, coffee, acid-forming foods, sugar and alcohol. In health, bowel transit from eating to defecation is 24 hours or less and bowel movement is at least once a day. In disease faeces can remain in the colon for many days or weeks which lead to re-absorption of toxins, soluble waste and parasites into the bloodstream. |
